Renowned journalist Zoraida Sambolin, Weekday Edition co-anchor of NBC 5 News Today in Chicago, will serve as celebrity emcee at CHCI’s 37th Annual Awards Gala on October 2, 2014 in Washington, D.C. The event is the largest gathering of Latino leaders in the country and is part of CHCI’s Hispanic Heritage Month events, including its Public Policy Conference and Reyes of Comedy.
Sambolin rejoined NBC 5 News in 2014 after spending two years at CNN. The morning news anchor originally joined the station in the summer of 2002 and began reporting for Telemundo the following year. As the first Chicago on-air broadcaster to work at both English and Spanish language stations simultaneously, she has broken new ground for Latinos in the No. 3 market in the country. Sambolin launched “Nuestra Familia” on WSNS Telemundo, a weekly series, where she tackles a variety of topics on health and family life and provides resources and information to help Latino families in the Chicago area.
